Mehmet Güleryüz was born in 1938 in Istanbul. In 1966, he graduated as valedictorian from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (now Mimar Sinan University). From 1970 to 1975, he received a state scholarship for advanced training in painting and lithography in Paris. After returning to Istanbul, he taught at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Bilgi University, and the Yıldız Technical University Combined Arts Program. The first exhibition of Mehmet Güleryüz's drawings was held in 1963, which has since been followed by numerous exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Throughout his artistic career, Mehmet Güleryüz has received many awards, and his works are held privately and in museums, such as the Istanbul Modern Art Museum, the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, the Sakıp Sabancı Collection, and the New York University Collection. A retrospective of Mehmet Güleryüz's work spanning 50 years of his creative output was staged at Gallery Nev in Ankara in 2008 and at Kibele Art Gallery in Istanbul in 2009.
In 1958, Mehmet Güleryüz began to take acting lessons, leading to a professional career that started in 1963 at the Arena Theatre. He has since played many roles on film and television.
